Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 1 July 2026
1. Eligibility
Self-drive clients must be at least 23 years old, hold a valid driving licence held for a minimum of two years, and present a national ID or passport. Foreign licences must be accompanied by an International Driving Permit unless otherwise agreed.
2. Booking & Payment
A booking is confirmed once full payment or an agreed deposit is received. We accept M-Pesa, bank transfer and major cards. Corporate clients may apply for invoiced monthly billing subject to a signed account agreement.
3. Security Deposit
A refundable security deposit is required for all self-drive bookings. The deposit is released within 5 working days of the vehicle's return, less any deductions for damage, fuel shortfall, traffic fines or unpaid tolls incurred during the hire period.
4. Vehicle Use
Vehicles must be used only on public roads within Kenya unless prior written approval is given for cross-border travel. Off-road use outside marked tracks, overloading beyond stated seating capacity, and use for illegal purposes are strictly prohibited.
5. Insurance & Liability
All vehicles carry comprehensive insurance. The hirer is responsible for the policy excess in the event of an accident caused by their negligence, and for any damage arising from a breach of these terms.
6. Fuel Policy
Vehicles are issued with a full tank and must be returned with a full tank, or the shortfall will be deducted from the security deposit plus a refuelling service fee.
7. Cancellations & Amendments
Cancellations made more than 48 hours before pickup receive a full refund. Cancellations within 48 hours may incur a cancellation fee of up to one day's rental. Date and vehicle changes are subject to availability.
8. Extensions
Bookings may be extended by contacting our team at least 12 hours before the scheduled return time, subject to the vehicle's availability for subsequent clients.
9. Chauffeur-Driven Hire
Chauffeur-driven clients direct the itinerary but do not operate the vehicle. Drivers reserve the right to refuse instructions that would breach traffic law or compromise passenger safety.
10. Breakdown & Roadside Assistance
In the event of a mechanical breakdown not caused by driver negligence, CJS Car Hire will provide roadside assistance or a replacement vehicle at no additional cost.
11. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kenya, and any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of Kenyan courts.
